Fair was founded before Google.

It’s about the internet, and why ‘Death by Armageddon’ is merely the matter in focus. A proven model where anyone can directly fund science. Guaranteed tax and corrupt free. 95% went directly to Asteroid research.

Now we are looking for a forever home in the cloud.

If Fair Society were adopted by the right entity, it could very realistically raise hundreds of millions for space exploration. I am not even talking about lucrative quadrillions to be found in asteroid mining. I challenge anyone could find a flaw in the proposal. But only if you have seven minutes to spare….

https://www.youtube.com/embed/1FB7vJcR2KE?si=rk0YzwlmGZyDaOcF

IF Only… Sadly it’s too simple and honest for people to accept. It’s human nature to complicate the crap out of everything. We got close…Fair is a model foundation for it.

Metaphorical Murphy as seen in the video.

Fair Society has so far held to it’s pledge of keeping the members list (141 paidup members from the four corners of our roundish planet) acknowledged indefinitelty. Our society has been arguing the case for asteroid interception, since the days of Netscape, rollerball mice, and modems. Hell, our little pro-space-exploration club was even fondly reviewed on world television once (BBC). We argued support for the Clovis comet theory during the Gulf War. We even posted dash cam footage of one exploding in Russia injuring 1,613 unsuspecting citizens in 2013.

The site has been kept ticking along since inception. Although banking charges made it financially unviable after a decade, we stuck to our pledge that Fair would be digitally around as long as the internet was alive. Fair, with over twenty years of research, opinion, news, cartoons to lighten the issue, is now looking for a permanent home in the cloud, an inheritor, a new owner.

I addressed the God Squad who figured deflecting a flying rock was interfering with his Divinity matter. But one old gent in a village can no longer guarantee to keep the Society alive as promised, and he fears the sworn digital immortality for sparing a thought for the future may be in jeopardy. There’s no other guardian. It’s a fun great website with a rich history and it would be a shame to let it die.

Fair had initially aimed for an even more daring time to contribute to space exploration by suggesting a small recognised donation as a funeral extra. The Fair-well phase was too simple to be acceptable. A fresh set of oars might find a way nowadays with the aid of technological advances and e-banking….

As if to clarify why the society was created and why it’s possibly needed as more than ever, just last month scientists were shocked by a new interstellar invader: an impossible-to-catch new comet, 31/Atlas, travelling at 137 000 miles per hour headed our way! With less than six months’ notice, we would be f***ed. Just as portrayed in the de Caprio movie Don’t Look Up. A miniscule difference in celestial trajectory, and Xmas 2025 could have been an extinction event.

So, the long and short of it is that we are looking for someone to whom to pass the baton, someone who will give Fair a rent-free home in the cloud and even continue our work.

Full Disclosure

Perhaps my mistake was that I was firmly against commercialising the non profit Society. People are suspicious, the “it-looks-to-good to-be-true” syndrome. So this is all cards on the table: Fair is antiquated in this new AI era, but the methodology, execution, and concept cannot change.

It’s too simple to complicate.

How to Buy Mars!! 😆

The most worrying fact is that it was close, due to hit too soon for us to prevent disaster! It’s exact impact time was ominously of lottery odds: 2:02 pm in the afternoon of the 22nd of December 2032.🤪 It had a 3% chance of impact, about the same as a hurricane hitting a house in Florida.

Insurance companies have sliding scales according to what form of nature’s wrath wreakes havoc upon one’s property. You can insure almost anything, but once prediction of an asteroid strike is as high as this, apparently even they won’t gamble on those odds. Compare less likely deaths they do cover, like a personal lightening strike.

It took a few stressful days before astronomets confirmed the rock will just skim past. But if Earth’s gravity alters it’s trajectory and it does come back around on its return orbit, YR2 could come back to haunt us yet.

It’s never been about if but always when a meteor will hit the Third Rock from the Sun…again !

FAIR was always going to fight a loosing battle… I even campaigned for equality in funding to shark prevention.

Fair society’s mission statement was to support the development of Asteroid Research in preventing an extinction event. Any threat to life has first to be found and identified, and that was the society’s primary objective, assisting the boffins mapping our heavens.

Using the fledgling internet to create a global group specifically to raise funds for a financially handicapped science. A science that is literally dedicated to the saving of all life on Earth.

An in depth article from March 23, 1998, highlighted how scientists actually had a doomsday date and time on their radar for a bit. Prof. Toms Gehrels said they could have done nothing about it if it had proved true!!!

At the forefront of blueprints in saving the world from a killer asteroid at this time (late 1990’s) was the idea of hitting it with a rocket launched nuke or two.

So I had called it the Future Asteroid Interception ROCKET Society. Putting the list of society members on a CD, to be placed into the cone of the Rocket that was ultimately being launched to save mankind. All very noble stuff, ha!

This however was considered too diabolical to be taken seriously by those I approached, so I toned the society into something less radical: Research…

Tom Gehrels, a renown astronomer, was quoted Time as saying they received an pittance in terms of the overall space program.

Frozen out!

Tom was a very gracious host when I visited him with my proposal, and one amongst many things I came away with from our chats, sitting at dawn on top of the Kitt Peak near the observatory, was about Extraterrestials. He was fairly sure we would have first contact in the near future and he hoped he would be alive to see it.

Sure the Fair Society did not’ perform or as well as I hoped despite some great publicity.

A submission the the BBC World’s weekly program ‘Click-on-Line’ dedicated to all new things about the internet was very favorably reviewed. (Sort of like Top Gear for nerds haha).

A talented cartoonist Scott Alan very kindly helped me with comic sketch ideas to go with stories published. Trying to lighten what, at first reaction, is usually very negative and incredulous response to the idea of Armageddon in real life (Fair actually was formed ahead of Mr Bruce Willis’s big-screen heroics).

Fair justified the reasons when questioned why.

We compared casino odds, and the ill spent funds on military. Even the God issue was answered when I took flak for interfering with his agenda etc…

Still we managed to raise over EU 2.000.00 for Spaceguard which was much appreciated and put to good use.

When a brain spends a lot of time mentally meandering about in stuff above our atmosphere, it tends to get expansive. In my case anyway I got to thinking beyond just saving Earth from annihilation and play with more adventurous space rhubarbs…. this required some science fiction. Introducing:

The general scientific consensus in stopping a killer rock was that we would have to nuke an asteroid into lots of smaller, less lethal meteors.
But that wasn’t any guarantee that the Earth would be much better off if. You know being walloped by a bunch of city-exterminating-size space rocks instead of one knockout celestial punch.

So we did at least accomplish more than the dinosaurs, proving that we can, with the use of technology, not all end up crispy fried.

But seriously, this ‘little’ NASA test may be the single most important space project ever. I mean above the moon and Mars stuff. This will prove that mankind can protect our home planet, Mother Earth, from an extinction event.

However, it would be a mistake to become complacent as we still haven’t covered 100% of our astronomical horizons: rogue rocks may still lurk in the dark. Astronomers are still surprised on a regular basis by an asteroid that appears with little or no warning (sometimes after it has passed). Scientists say they need years of warning if we are to stand a chance of intercepting the threat in time. If…

Most of us are familiar with mild concern caused by the sensation of racing down a runway for takeoff. Even frequent fliers have at some point, if only fleetingly, thought about the consequences of something going wrong. Like millions of fellow travelers, however, we calculate the odds against a disaster as slim and sit back to enjoy the flight. We put our faith in the technology of modern airplane and, these days, airport security and know that there is insurance against disaster.

There are few among us who haven’t thought about a shark attack when we have taken a dip in the ocean. We take to the surf in full confidence that we are not on today’s menu, and if someone is going to be lunch, it’s going to be the other bloke. Most of us will, however, choose a beach with shark nets or other safety devices out of preference.

Lightening is known to zap people out of the blue, but we don’t go underground every time there is a thunderstorm. We figure the mathematical probability against getting fried to be stacked in our favour. Yet, we erect conductors.

Countless sunseekers have migrated to high-risk earthquake zones, calculating the odds of living in fair weather versus experiencing a natural catastrophe in their lifetime as acceptable.

Which of us hasn’t dreamed of what we would do if we won a million bucks in a lottery. Just about everybody has spent a few blissful minutes imagining what it would be like to be rolling in it. Millions of people do so each week when they “invest” in a ticket, knowing full well that the chances of winning are about as slim as being hit by a meteorite. So, why do we do it? Simply because we know that somebody somewhere is a winner and that there is a chance.

In life, we are all affected in some way by the odds, the chance of something happening or not.

Since films like Deep Impact and Armageddon, most folks are now aware that at some point in our planet’s future, we are going to get walloped by an extraterrestrial missile. But we figure this is way beyond our ability to prevent, and we put our faith in the odds we have been given and dismiss the subject. In the asteroid lottery, however, there is no selection: everyone “wins.”

But what if one were able to do something about it? Something that would take just a few short minutes, after which one would never have to think on the subject again in the knowledge of having done something constructive and spared a one-off thought for the future safety of Earth from space.
